Dental Hygiene/Periodontal Health

Good oral hygiene is essential to maintain a healthy body and healthy gums and teeth. We can help you establish a dental hygiene routine that will keep your teeth and gums healthy . If you have any questions about your current hygiene regimen please ask us.

Your teeth are not the only important part of your mouth. Your gums need to be clean and healthy, too. We can provide periodontal cleanings and treatment, or refer you to one of our recommended specialists. Please let us know if you have any questions.

Oral cancer screenings

Oral cancer screenings are a very important part of the dental visit for the patient. It is important to detect something abnormal early so that one can treat any issues prior to them becoming a major irreversible problem.

An initial screening of key anatomical structures of the head and neck is performed. We look for abnormal lumps or lesions, or areas of tenderness that should not be so. If required, the oral cancer screening can be further pursued with a device that emits a light that allows us to view issues that can't always be detected by the human eye under normal conditions.
Certain lifestyle choices can have a great impact on the health of tissues and your overall health in the mouth. If you are a smoker or heavy drinker, make sure to get regular screenings when you visit the dentist. Ask us about current medical research that is finding a link between oropharyngeal cancer and the human papilloma virus.

Root Planing

Often there is plaque and tartar that accumulates at and below the gum line. This can lead to gum disease, which is usually painless and goes undetected. Bleeding gums is the initial sign, and if left untreated, the teeth will begin to loosen within their sockets. To help our patients prevent or control gum disease, we will clean and smooth the teeth and gums with special instruments to ensure that the area is completely clean so that the gums are cleared of inflamed tissues, and roots are left smooth and void of softened infected root material. It's very important to have your dentist check if you have bleeding during brushing.
